The mission of religious education is to assist parents in forming a new generation of Catholics who know and love Jesus Christ and live as His disciples in our community. Our parish program of religious education seeks to assist parents who are the primary teachers of their children, in passing on their faith. The Church strongly encourages all parents to walk closely with their children as they grow in their knowledge and practice of our Catholic faith. Here at St. Francis de Sales, we strive to offer a solid and engaging religious education program which seeks to sow the seeds of faith that will continue to bloom eternally in our children. Through study, discussion, prayer, sacraments, and service, our students are invited to encounter Jesus Christ.
Classes for 7th – 12th grade are held on Sunday afternoon from 3:30 to 5:00pm at the Parish Center. The students are then encouraged to attend Mass at 5:00 PM, and if desired, to attend the Youth Group meetings held in the Parish Center before classes from 1:45pm to 3:15pm. Religious Education classes are held from September through April each year.
This year's teachers are:
Kolette Kozlowicz and Kathy Mecum – 7 & 8 Grades
See the Youth Group page for information on our Youth Group program.
For information on Religious Education for Junior/Senior High School, contact the Director of Religious Education 7th - 12th.
Before Christ was put to death on the cross, He promised his disciples that He would send His Spirit to comfort and strengthen them. To that end, the Holy Spirit was poured out on them forty days after His Resurrection on Pentecost. The Sacrament of Confirmation is our Pentecost. When we are confirmed, we receive the Holy Spirit through anointing with oil and the laying on of hands by the bishop. When we receive the sacred seal of anointing of the holy oil, we show that we belong to God and become part of the priesthood of believers, witnesses to Christ and heirs to His throne.
Candidates for the St. Francis de Sales Confirmation program will be in their first year of high school and must have attended a full year of religious education classes prior to beginning preparation for the sacrament, either here or at another Catholic Parish. These students are expected to continue participation in their current level of religious education; will be required to participate in two (2) pre-Confirmation retreats and must devote service time to our parish.
This year's teachers are:
Marie Kalberer and Sarah Peacock – Confirmation I
James Romero – Confirmation II
For information on the Confirmation Program, contact the Director of Religious Education 7th - 12th.
Is God calling you to Teach?
Religious Education Teachers are always needed! Please pray about the possibility that God may be calling you to teach our youth. No experience is necessary and all materials and training are provided. All you need is a love for God and the desire to help the Church grow. Our teachers teach students from pre-k through high school seniors. If God is calling you to teach, please contact the one of the Religious Education directors.
